About Dziri

Professional Journey

Aminah N’kadziri Idd is a lawyer and legal searcher as well as a sign language specialist at the University of Nairobi, where she conducts research and supports interpretation at the Disability Liaison Office. She is the Co-founder and Executive Officer of ASCPaS (A Smile to Child Parents Society), an organization dedicated to mentoring children with disabilities and empowering their parents. N’kadziri also provides consultancy services on disability inclusion and has contributed to a policy brief and position paper for the African Union Sports Council. She has been actively involved in the legislative process of the Kenya Sign Language (KSL) Bill, serving on the drafting committee and appearing before the National Assembly to advocate for the recognition and inclusion of Children of Deaf Adults (CODAs).

Academic Path

N'kadziri has pursued an LLB degree. In her dissertation, she focused on Sexual violence among children with Disabilities: Shortcomings in the kenyan Legal system for the deaf child. As a finding, language is a major barrier thus furthering on and studying sign langauge. Ease of communicating in KSL professionally probed another desire to pursue more knowledge; the complex phonology, morphology and syntax functioning of KSL as a visual langauge.She is now pursuing linguistics to achieve that.

Advocacy in Action

Aminah N’kadziri Idd is the visionary behind a mentorship program for High School Students with Disabilities (HSWD) at the University of Nairobi. Through this initiative, she has spearheaded awareness creation on academic pathways and opportunities available in institutions of higher learning, contributing to a noticeable increase in the enrollment of HSWD in universities and colleges.

She has organized and facilitated numerous webinars, trainings and conferences focused on disability inclusion. In her role as an Executive Officer at ASCPaS, N’kadziri has led various outreach programs across the country, reaching and supporting children with disabilities and their communities.

Recognizing the power of the arts as a tool for advocacy, she has curated and directed inclusive artistic productions that include: plays, film, dance, and music, featuring both children with and without disabilities, all centered on promoting disability inclusion.

In the field of inclusive education, N’kadziri is actively developing interactive and accessible learning materials aimed at advancing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles.

As a Child of Deaf Adults (CODA), she brings lived experience into her work as a sign language interpreter. She provides interpretation services in both professional and everyday settings, helping to bridge communication gaps between Deaf and hearing communities.

N’kadziri’s life experiences have shaped her resilience and purpose, turning past adversities into catalysts for transformative change. As a dedicated advocate for the rights of children with disabilities, she upholds a vision grounded in acceptance and inclusion.

Her mission is to promote inclusive development through knowledge production, particularly within Afrocentric frameworks and to leave a meaningful legacy for generations to come. Anchored in the philosophy of Ubuntu “I am because we are” her work emphasizes interconnectedness, equity and social justice.

Vision & Goals

N'kadziri envisions a world where inclusion becomes a norm. This comes with a goal to be an authority in documentation, research, and advocacy lon linguistic human rights. Planting a seed that shall be deeply rooted in Africa literature, its branches spreading that sparks interest for more scholars and activists thus producing fruits of inclusion that supercede ableism.
